RETROPLAY ARENA's Tennis Pong adds angle physics and a charge shot mechanic to the 1972 classic. Where the ball hits your paddle determines the outgoing angle — edge hits create sharp angles, center hits go straight. This turns Pong from luck into skill.
Angle Physics Explained
The paddle is divided into zones. Hit the top edge: ball goes up-right at ~52°. Hit the center: ball goes nearly horizontal. Hit the bottom edge: ball goes down-right. Use this to aim at corners the CPU can't reach.
Power Shot (Charge Mechanic)
Hold SPACE while the ball approaches. A yellow charge bar fills on your paddle. Release when the ball hits — the return speed increases by up to 50%. A full-charge power shot is nearly unreturnable if aimed at a corner. But if you miss the timing, you lose the charge.
CPU AI Behavior
The CPU gets smarter each level. At level 1, it has a 60px error margin. By level 5, it tracks almost perfectly. The trick: use sharp angles to force the CPU to move large distances quickly — it can't teleport, so extreme angles beat it.
PVP Strategy
Against humans, vary your shot angles unpredictably. Alternate between soft center returns and sharp edge shots. Save power shots for when your opponent is out of position. First to 5 wins — patience beats aggression.
